I am delighted to announce the first Law & Technology & Economics seminar the academic year, which I will be hosting here at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (ALTI) on October 10, from 12:00 to 13:00.

Speaker: Geoffrey A. Manne (President & Founder, ICLE; Visiting Professor, IE University; Distinguished Fellow, Northwestern University)

Topic: Digital Competition Regulations: A Paradigm Shift in Competition Policy

Geoffrey Manne will explore the ascent of Digital Competition Regulations, with the EU’s Digital Markets Act as the flagship. His thesis is straightforward and provocative: these regimes are not a mere extension of competition law, but a rupture. Where antitrust once revolved around consumer welfare and innovation, DCRs pivot to redistribution, rival protection, and the deliberate hobbling of leading platforms. Through cases such as Apple’s DMA compliance and the Android Auto decision, he will illustrate the conceptual fuzziness, the innovation hazards, and the broader paradigm shift that these rules signal for competition policy worldwide.

Format: A 30-minute talk, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
