Dear all,
You are warmly invited to two upcoming events hosted by the Amsterdam Law & Technology Institute (ALTI) in the coming weeks at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam:
📅 Friday, 28 November – Competition Law Master’s Thesis Awards 2025
Event details & registration<https://alti.amsterdam/event/theses-awards/>
The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, together with ICLE, is delighted to host a special event dedicated to the Master Thesis Competition in Competition Law. The afternoon will bring together academics, enforcers, and practitioners to discuss how research can inform real-world enforcement and policymaking, while celebrating the next generation of competition law experts.
Speakers will discuss how academic work can inform enforcement practice, integrate legal and economic reasoning, and turn complex theories into actionable insights for regulators and firms. The discussion will also explore how AI, open data, and new technologies are transforming competition law research and enforcement, and how to preserve human judgment in an increasingly automated world.
Speakers include: Alison Jones (King’s College London), Mariateresa Maggiolino (Bocconi University), Francisco Marcos (IE Law School), Frédéric Marty (Université Côte d’Azur), Henri Piffaut (European Commission, DG COMP), Thibault Schrepel (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), and Anna Tzanaki (University of Leeds).
📅 Wednesday, 10 December – Frédéric Jenny: The Five Crises of Competition Law
Event details & registration<https://alti.amsterdam/event/jenny/>
Frédéric Jenny (OECD) will explore how industrial policy to promote growth through innovation has taken center stage in Europe’s economic agenda. What do we know about the economics of innovation and the respective roles of competition and industrial policy in fostering it? Under which conditions could these two policies be complementary rather than conflicting? The session will address these questions through the lens of the five crises currently facing competition law.
Both events are free and open to all, but registration is required.
We look forward to seeing you there,
Warm regards,
Thibault Schrepel
Associate Professor of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
